Sri Lanka stocks close up 0.1-pct

Jan 13, 2011(LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed 0.10 percent higher Thursday with active trading in the power sector and lot of retail driven participation, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 7,021.88, up 0.10 percent (7.03 points) while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks closed at 7,326.84, down 0.01 percent (0.38 points) according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Turnover was 3.4 billion rupees. There were 79 gainers and 133 losers.

"Anticipation of good earnings in the power sector drew a lot of attention during trading to the counters in the sector," Janita Silva of Bartleet Mallroy Stockbrokers said.

Panasian Power closed at 4.20, up 0.10 cents with over 16 million shares done while Hemas Power closing at 37.60, up 0.80 cents with over 1.2 million shares traded.

The biggest contributor to turnover was Laugfs Gas with its voting shares closing at 47.30, down 6.70 with over 10.7 million shares traded. Non-voting shares closed at 36.50, down 4.00 with 3.2 million shares changing hands.

Over a million Odel shares were done and the stock closed at 46.70, down 2.80 while index heavy John Keells Holdings closed flat at 295.10.

Dankotuwa Porcelain closed at 79.30, up 5.40 rupees with a million shares traded.
