Micro Cars mulls going public
Micro Cars, the first local motor vehicle manufacturer in Sri Lanka is mulling going public in a bid to expand its production capacity amidst a positive economic outlook predicted for the country, according to a top company official.
"Yes we have been looking at going public in the recent times, but I think it pre-mature to comment anything more about it at this moment. But when the right time comes, we will announce whether we are going for it or not" Chairman of the Micro Cars Limited told Daily Mirror Business.
"Currently we are concentrating more on setting up our new showroom and a state-of-the-art service centre exclusive for Micro customers. The new service centre will be able to provide services to 240 Micro vehicles at any given time as opposed to the current service facility which can only accommodate 60 vehicles at a time" he said.
Talking on the company's local sales figures Perera said that in the year 2010 they have sold well over 4000 units, including all the vehicle categories ranging form hatch backs, sedans, SUVs, light trucks, trucks, MPVs and vans.
"In 2011 we are looking at a 60 percent increase in sales from the previous year" he remarked.
When asked about the export of motor vehicles, which the Micro cars ventured into last year exporting 10 sedan cars to Nepal, he said that in 2011 the firm is planning to export 150 to 200 vehicles to Nepal.
"In fact we are sending a consignment of 10 mini vans to Nepal this month" he said.
He also said that Micro has already appointed a dealer in Nepal and sending about 200 vehicles to Nepal would be a material thing compared to the small size of the Nepali vehicle market.
"We are also currently negotiating with the dealers in Pakistan and Bangladesh for possible export opportunities" he remarked.
