CSE Reaches a New All Time High

During the holiday shortened week the All Share Price Index (ASPI) gained 221.41points to close at a new all time high of 7254.01 points, while the Milanka Price Index (MPI) declined by 8.14 points to close at 7292.95 points.  The daily average turnover was SLRs.3.9bn compared to SLRs.4.1bn last week and the week ended with foreign buying amounting to SLRs. 944mn whilst foreign selling was SLRs.1.21bn.

On Monday Singer Finance commenced trading in the secondary market and closed up SLRs.34.20 (228%) at SLRs.49.20 with more than 21mn shares actively traded posting day’s single largest turnover while total turnover for the day amounted to SLRs.3.2bn.

 First Capital Holdings which closed up SLRs.3.70 (15%) at 28.30 made a significant contribution in terms of turnover followed by Hayleys PLC.  The market declined after gaining for two consecutive weeks with ASPI and MPI losing 24.54 points and 61.05 points respectively as investors realized profits.

Singer Finance continued to post the single largest turnover for the second consecutive day on Tuesday with approximately 13mn shares traded between SLRs.49.70 and 55.70 to close at SLRs.50.60.

Asiri Hospitals posted day’s second largest turnover of SLRs.377mn with approximately 41.8mn shares traded at SLRs.9.00 by way of a crossing. Colombo Fort Land & Building Company closed up SLRs.61.80 (24.6%) at 312.70 being amongst the most heavily traded top gainers for the day followed by Lanka Hospitals which closed up 19% at SLRs.38.70.  Total turnover for the day reached SLRs.3.5bn while ASPI and MPI increased by 50.27 points and 8.16 points respectively.

Colombo bourse reached a new all time high on Thursday when ASPI gained 134.77 points to reach 7193.10 points surpassing its previous record of 7147.77 while MPI moved up by 52.48 points. Day’s total turnover reached SLRs.4.65bn.

The highest contribution to revenue came in from Laugh Gas voting share amounting to SLRs.531mn while closed up SLRs.8.60 (20.8%) at 50.00. 712,800 shares of JKH traded by way of a crossing at SLRs.293 making a significant contribution in terms of turnover. Sierra Cables was the most heavily traded stock of the day with 24mn shares traded while the share closed up at SLRs.5.90.

On Friday ASPI gained 60.91 points to reach a new all time high however MPI declined by 7.73 points.

Total turnover for the day reached SLRs.4.14bn to which the highest contribution came in from Laugh Gas Ltd mainly by way of a crossing of 549,700 shares at SLRs.48.50 while closed flat at SLRs.50.00.

Amana Takaful PLC being highlighted amongst major gainers of the day posed the second largest contribution of SLRs.297.6mn with the stock closing up at SLRs.4.10 articulating a 20.59% change in the share price and was also the most heavily traded counter for the day.

With more companies to release better than expected earnings during the coming week we expect the market to reach further highs.
