The Colombo Stock Exchange dipped 0.68 percent on Monday with profit taking and strong speculative buying interest on power sector stocks, brokers said.
The All Share Price Index lost 50.59 points to close at 7,355.43, down 0.68 percent from Friday’s close. The Milanka Price Index of more liquid shares was 0.26 percent lower, down 17.92 points to close at 6,839.48.
A little more than 611.5 million shares changed hands with turnover amounting to Rs. 4.94 billion, with 71 counters making gains against 131 losers.
The highest contribution came from a transaction involving Panasian Power PLC (see story elsewhere on this page).
"The market witnessed mixed sentiments throughout the day. Interest prevailed in certain low value counters and also on certain power sector counters," Bartleet Mallory Stockbrokers said.
John Keells Stockbroker said the day was dominated by speculative buying on Panasian power.
