Sri Lanka shares end up 1.21-pct

Jan 07, 2011(LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed higher Friday with Panasian Power, a mini hydro firm, débuting on the market and active retail trading, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 6,891.96, up 1.21 percent (82.23 points) while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks closed at 7,286.88, up 1.28 percent (92.38 points) according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Turnover was 4.1 billion rupees. There were 132 gainers and 76 losers.

Panasian Power shares started trading with the stock closing at 3.70, up 0.70 cents and contributing 237 million rupees to overall turnover. Two hundred million shares were offered to the public at 3.00 rupees and 63 million shares were traded.

The biggest contributor to trading was Laugfs Gas with its voting shares closing at 36.60, up 5.90 with over 11.2 million shares traded. Non-voting shares closed at 29.80, up 5.10 with 7.3 million shares changing hands.

Bairaha Farms closed at 410.30, down 20.30 and Ceylon Grain Elevators closed at 115.10, up 1.10 rupees with one million shares changing hands.

Commercial Bank closed at 273.70, up 6.50 and Sampath bank closing at 290.80, up 8.00 rupees.

Dialog Axaita shares closed at 12.00, up 0.20 cents with over 600,000 shares done.
