Sri Lanka shares end up 1.1-pct

Jan 11, 2011(LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed higher Monday with active retail trading, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 6,992.71, up 1.1 percent (75.86 points) while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks closed at 7,314.70, up 0.45 percent (32.75 points) according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Turnover was 4.4 billion rupees.

Bairaha Farms closed at 410.30, up 16.50 rupees and Grain Elevators closed at 126.00, up 11.40 rupees with 2.6 million shares traded.

The biggest contributor to trading was Laugfs Gas with its voting shares closing at 48.90, up 6.90 with over 15 million shares traded. Non-voting shares closed at 41.20, up 3.70 with six million shares changing hands.

Sampath Bank closed at 296.10, up 1.30 rupees and Commercial Bank closed at 279.70, up 5.10 rupees.

Odel closed at 47.60, up 6.20 with 3.7 million shares done while Dialog Axiata closed at 11.90, up 0.10 cents.
