Sri Lanka shares end up 0.61-pct

Jan 04, 2011, (LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed higher Tuesday with active trading in the information technology sector, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 6,698.71, up 0.61 percent (40.74 points) while the more liquid Milanka index closed at 7,087.28, up 0.37 percent (25.85 points) according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Turnover was three billion rupees.

"There was active trading seen from the local and retail traders in the market," Thakshila Hulangamuwa of Asha Phillip Securities said.

The biggest contributor to trading was PC House with over 16 million shares done and the stock closing at 16.10, up 2.70 rupees.

Bairaha Farms closed at 382.50, up 5.20 and Ceylon Grain Elevators closed at 93.50, up 16.00 rupees with 1.8 million shares changing hands.

Dialog Axiata closed at 11.70, down 0.10 cents with over 2.3 million shares traded.
