Sri Lanka shares end up 0.33-pct

Jan 03, 2011, (LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed higher Monday with activity seen in the index heavy and poultry sector stocks, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 6,657.91, up 0.33 percent (22.04 points) while the more liquid Milanka index closed flat at 7,061.36, according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Turnover was 1.9 billion rupees.

"Both retail and institutional participation was seen in market trading," Thilini Yatawara of Bartleet Mallory stockbrokers said.

JKH was the most heavily traded stock with two crossings of 500,000 and 150,000 shares at 300.00 and the stock closing at 299.50, up 1.10 rupees with 807,000 shares done.

Bairaha Farms closed at 377.30, up 53.00 and Ceylon Grain Elevators closed at 77.50, up 2.80 rupees with 925,000 shares changing hands.

Sampath Bank closed at 271.80, up 0.10 rupees while DFCC closed at 200.00, down 0.20 cents. Commercial Bank closed at 260.00, up 0.10 cents.

Dialog Axiata closed flat at 11.80 with over 600,000 shares traded.
