Ceylon Continental in Rs. 1 billion refurbishment

A leading five star hotel in Colombo is planning a billion rupee facelift as part of an overall strategy to attract business travellers to Sri Lanka’s capital as expectations run high for vibrant economic growth at 8.5 percent this year, growing tourism and investments.

Ceylon Continental Hotel, the country’s first five star facility controlled by conglomerate Hayleys PLC, will shortly undergo a Rs. 1 billion facelift, sources said.

The hotel’s 190 rooms, including 35 suites would be refurbished while three more restaurants would be added. An exclusive ‘Chairman’s Lounge’ in a congenial atmosphere which will cater mainly to the corporate and a roof top restaurant are some of the new features.

Sources told The Island Financial Review that the Ceylon Continental was targeting business travellers,
