Explore Sri Lanka ''by train or mountain bike''

Many people with backpacker travel insurance could be keen to visit Sri Lanka and see what the country has to offer.

If this is the case, they may want to follow the advice of one expert when it comes to getting around the area.

Marketing manager of UK and Ireland for Sri Lanka Tourism Nabeel Shariff claimed there are a number of different ways for individuals to see the sights and explore the region.

While some may want to hire a car and drive, athletic types might prefer to try mountain biking or hiking.

Mr Shariff also pointed out that there are "intrepid train routes" available, while tuk tuks are another way for people to get around.

"With the relaxation of the FCO [Foreign & Commonwealth Office] travel advisories Sri Lanka has also become so much more accessible, including the unexplored east coast and the deep south," he continued.

Earlier this month, SCB Partners published its Trend Predictions for the year ahead, which suggested there will be an increase in the number of Brits heading to spiritual destinations such as Sri Lanka.
