Price-band-hit stocks recover All Share Index shoots, Milanka gains modestly

The ASPI was up 114.50 points (2.21%) against a 15.09 points gain (0.26%) on the Milanka with 103 gainers outpacing 70 losers.

Brokers said that part of the sharp gain on the ASPI was attributable to several share splits that are pending or are anticipated by investors.

Yesterday’s biggest turnover generator was Dialog where nearly 16.4 million shares were done between Rs.9.90 and Rs.10 gaining 10 cents to close at Rs.10 contributing Rs.162.3 million to turnover.

JKH was next on the turnover league with over 0.3 million shares done between Rs.254.90 and Rs.256.90 gaining a rupee to close at Rs.255.90 generating Rs.79.5 million turnover.

Hayleys was up sharply by Rs.9.10 to close at Rs.324 on over 0.9 million shares traded between Rs.318 and Rs.325.

Some of the speculative stocks hurt by the price band recently imposed, including Touchwood and the Environment Resources Investments (ERI) and its warrants, were up yesterday on fairly substantial volume – most so Touchwood where nearly 2.2 million shares were traded between Rs.31 and Rs.35.20 gaining Rs.2.40 to close at Rs.34.90.

ERI was up Rs.7.40 to Rs.99 on over 0.4 million shares done betweenRs.87 and Rs.99.50 and its warrants W0006, W0002 and W0003 were also on the top traded list posting substantial gains.

Of the warrants, W0006 was up Rs.4 to Rs.45.10 on over 0.8 million traded, W0002 up Rs.4.40 to Rs.8.50 on 0.7 million traded and W0003 was up Rs.4.10 to Rs.45.30 on nearly 0.6 million traded.

Among other blue chip gainers showing volume were Chevron, up Rs.5.70 to Rs.165 on over 0.4 million shares, Ceylon Investments, up Rs.165 on over 0.4 million shares, Ceylon Investments, up Rs.3 to Rs.94.50 on 68,100 shares and Central Finance, up Rs.11.30 to Rs.580 on 54,900 shares.

Dankotuwa was down Rs.1.50 to Rs.58.80 on nearly 0.8 million shares and Sampath Bank was down Rs.4.20 to Rs.365 on 87,400 traded.

DFCC, LOLC and Leather Products were gainers yesterday among the most traded stocks.
