Ceylon Hotels Corporation to give properties a facelift

The Ceylon Hotels Corporation plans to refurbish and re brand their properties in three to four categories. This follows the renaming of former Ambepussa Rest House as the CHC Heritage which was refurbished and transformed within one month. The Ceylon Hotels Corporation is owned by Galle Face Group.

Galle Face Group Vice President, Development and Strategy, Chethiya Perera said that the transformations would be announced by the group’s chairman Sanjeev Gardiner shortly.

Perera said all properties would be offered to the Sri Lankan Public as in the past, "for it is they who kept us going during difficult times. The rates would be affordable. We are also getting ready to cater to the expected increase of foreign tourists with the vision of the President and the Government of Sri Lanka."

"We have also refurbished, upgraded and re – launched the "Avanhala" at Ambepussa to a very high standard and soon, other outlets on major highways will follow on the same lines and branding.

"The Tissamaharama Resort and the Lihiniya Surf Hotel are closed for business and have already begun the refurbishment. Suisse Hotel in Kandy will follow shortly where each wing will be refurbished without closure," Perera said.

Ambepussa Rest House is one of the oldest establishments in the Ceylon Hotels Corporation’s collection of properties.

Built during the British Raj, the Rest House still stands in its original state without much transformation. In the mid 19th century, the Railway ran only up to Ambepussa, thirty six miles from Colombo. As a result the Rest House was the ideal abode for travelers.
