FBOP1 tea fetches a record Rs. 3,840 per kilo

At the tea auction held on 4 August, a line of FBOP1 from Nawalakanda factory fetched an all time record price of Rs. 3,840.

The sale was handled by brokers John Keells Plc, and the tea was purchased by Akbar Brothers Pvt. Ltd.

The previous record price for this grade was Rs. 3,000 which was established in the year 2006.       

Nawalakanda Tea Factory, Sri Lanka's third largest single tea producing factory for the past one-and-a- half decades, is renowned for producing teas with a very unique character. The factory is about 200 metres above sea level in a village called Nawalakanda about 15 Kilometres off the Pelmadulla-Embilipitiya main road.

The factory is located in the Ratnapura District of the Sabaragamuwa Province, and the tea manufactured in the factory falls into the Orthodox Low Grown catalogue at the weekly tea auctions.
