The ASPI reached 5,421.7 points, the highest ever index up by 115.9 points or 2.1 percent yesterday.

The MPI recorded 5,837.7 an increase of 41.2 points or 0.7 percent.

Market capitalization was Rs 1,781.5 billion, the highest ever recorded so far.

The market turnover was Rs 4,018.2 million.

The MPI reached 5,837 points and this is very encouraging, a senior stock broker from Capital Reach told Daily News Business.

The increase shows that market is going through psychological resistance. The MPI has reached almost 6,000 points and we have to look where it will lead to from here. It is a break though and sky is the limit, Sarath Rajapakse said. "We are optimistic. The prospects of economic growth and accelerated development process will fuel and blossom stock market activities.

The MPI reaching close to 6,000 points is an overcoming of this psychological barrier," he said.

According to Rajapakse careful monitoring is needed to ascertain where the MPI is heading.

"The market is going on a trend channel and moving. It is a significant event and will provide premonition of future trends.

The market will perform well in time to come," he said.
