Sri Lanka stocks close lower

Feb 09, 2011(LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed 0.1 percent lower Wednesday amid profit taking, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 7,377.44, down 0.10 percent (7.60 points) while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks closed at 7,203.75, up 0.06 percent (4.66 points) according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Turnover was 4.4 billion rupees.

"Active retail investor interest was seen in the poultry sector stocks," Thakshila Hulangamuwa of Asha Phillip Stockbrokers said.

Bairaha Farms closed at 459.10, up 8.60 rupees, Ceylon Grain Elevators closed at 239.00, up 17.80 rupees and Three Acres Farms closed at 224.80, up 16.80 rupees.

Commercial Bank closed at 277.10, down 1.80 rupees and 4.1 million shares done.
The banks shares have been trading actively in anticipation of good earnings report, a broker said.

Hayleys closed at 400.00, down 5.00 rupees, after December quarter profits fell 68 percent.
