Sri Lanka shares close 0.4-pct higher

Feb 23, 2011(LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed 0.45 percent up with retail investor dominated trading and some interest seen in the poultry and index heavy shares, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 7,548.86, up 0.45 percent (34.12 points) while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks closed at 7,181.13, up 0.29 percent (20.75 points) according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Turnover was 2.4 billion rupees.

John Keells Holdings closed at 291.00, down 1.20 with over 1 million shares traded and five crossings at 291.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed at 60.30, up 1.70 rupees.

The company reported a profit of 1,542 million rupees in the December quarter from a loss of 379 million rupees a year earlier, helped by a turnaround of its mobile unit. The group reported 85 cents of earnings per share for the quarter.

In poultry Bairaha closed at 412.70, up 14.00 rupees and Grain Elevators closed at 218.60, up 14.60 rupees.
