Autogrill mulling Sri Lankan investments

Autogrill S.p.A CEO Gianmario Tondato told Bloomberg wire that the company is looking at emerging economies to expand its operations and is looking at Sri Lanka among other locations for investment.

Autogrill S.p.A is the world's largest in the travel dining sector with over 250 licensed proprietary brands and over 90% of the company's business derives from outlets in airport terminals and motorway service areas.

Currently Autogrill has big stake in Alpha Airports group which in turn has operations in Sri Lanka and all over the world.

Currently Autogrill has operations in India by securing a joint venture partnership with government-owned retailer India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), an alliance that has already reaped dividends by winning the duty free tender at Mumbai Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

These investor interests come after Shangri La and Mobile operator Dialog Axiata among others disclosing massive investments in the country.

The company operates in over 40 countries and its food service units are found in airports, along motorways, and in train stations.

The company also operates duty-free shops and other retail locations at more than 100 airports around the world through its Aldeasa and World Duty Free units.

In addition, Autogrill offers in-flight catering and other services to airlines.
