Market starts in green

The stock market started the new week yesterday, enduring a high volatile trading environment. The market started in green, lost its momentum in the mid trading session and finally displaying some recovery to end trading. ASI gained marginally by 8.76 points (+0.13%) to end at 6,854.14 while sensitive MPI increased by 34.87 points (+0.56%) to end at 6,244.94.

Market turnover improved to Rs 3.6 billion.

Ceylon Grain Elevators Plc (Rs 676.6mn) was the top contributor to the turnover along with Orient Garments Plc (Rs 666.8mn) and John Keells Holdings Plc (Rs 325.3mn).

Furthermore counters such as Three Acre Farms Plc, East West Properties Plc and Seylan Development Plc demonstrated heavy trading.

Meanwhile 10% price band was imposed on East West Properties Plc, Orient Garments Plc and Three Acre Farms Plc.

Foreign participation was 9.0 percent of the total market activity. At the end of the day foreign investors were the net sellers with a net foreign outflow of Rs 363.8mn.
