Dull day on bourse - low turnover, indices down

The Colombo bourse continued its lackluster performance yesterday with turnover at Rs.1.12 billon, down from the previous day’s Rs.1.56 billion, and both indices down – the All Share by 49.02 points (0.75%) and the Milanka by 25.72 points (0.21%) with 46 gainers trailing 149 losers.

"It was a very dull day with the indices down almost the whole day," Prashan Fernando of Acuity Stockbrokers said. "The main activity was on Colombo Land with retailers active in the counter."

Colombo Land was the day’s biggest business generator gaining Rs.1.40 to close at Rs.62.10 on over 1.6 million shares done between Rs.59.50 and Rs.65 posting a turnover of Rs.99.9 million.

Browns followed gaining Rs.1.20 to close at Rs.275 on nearly 0.3 million shares traded between Rs.270 and Rs.276.

The other two most traded stocks were NDB (over 0.5 million shares) and JKH (over 0.2 million shares) with both counters gaining – NDB up one rupee to close at Rs.137 and JKH up Rs.2.80 to close at Rs.206.50.

A total of seven crossings were seen with two 100,000 parcels of JKH crossed at Rs.212 and Rs.208 , two NDB parcels of l20,000 and 300,000 shares at Rs.137 and Rs.135, two 100,000 parcels of Browns at Rs.275 and one parcel of 531,200 Seylan Bank at Rs.60.

Volume-wise Tess Agro, Panasian Power and Asiri were actively traded with Tess up 10 cents to close at Rs.3.20 on nearly 9 million shares, Panasian down 10 cents to close at Rs.5 on nearly 4.9 million shares and Asiri down Rs.2.10 to close at Rs.9.60 on over 2 million shares.

Lankem announced a final dividend of Rs.1.50 per share for 2010/11 following the Sept. 30 AGM with the share trading XD from Oct. 3 with payment on Oct. 12.
