Bourse closes week in the red

*LOFC falls after impressive opening day

The Colombo Stock Exchange ended the week on a low note with both indices falling on Friday (8), provisional data from the exchange showed.

The All Share Price Index fell 0.09 percent, down 6.43 points to close at 6,911.98 after gaining on three consecutive days while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks ended the week on 6,386.97, down 0.40 percent to close 25.46 points lower.

Turnover reached Rs. 2.4 billion on a volume of 91.4 million shares changing hands, with 53 counters closing with gains against 135 ending the week in the red.

The top contributors to the day’s turnover came from Carsons Cumberbatch PLC, up 6.46 percent to close at Rs. 590 after the company announced a massive take over deal in excess of Rs. 4 billion.

Vallibel One which commenced trading today was up 22.8 percent to close at Rs. 30.70.

HNB gained 1.76 percent to close at Rs. 219 while Asia Capital gained 6.47 percent to close at Rs. 112 and Selinsing PLC saw some last minute activity to close at Rs. 1,200, up 9.08 percent.

Lanka Orix Finance Co. which had an impressive debut the previous day, appreciating 152 percent to contribute to the overall up swing of the market, fell on Friday by 15.87 percent to close at Rs. 10.20.

Sri Lanka Telecom lost Rs. 1.30 during the day to close 2.37 percent lower at Rs. 53.60.

John Keells Holdings which generated institutional interest during the week closed 0.94 percent lower at Rs. 209.

LOLC declined 1.76 percent to end the week at Rs. 101.50 while BRWN was down 2.79 percent to close at Rs. 312.
