Sri Lanka Tourism Surged 63 Per Cent in November
Sri Lanka tourism surged by 63 per cent in November to 72,251 foreign tourists. Sri Lanka tourism is all set to surpass 600,000 tourists arrivals this year.
Western Europe tourists continued to travel Sri Lanka in November as well. Tourists from Western Europe rose by 61.7 per cent to 35,594 in the month of November. So far this year Sri Lanka welcomed 150,161 foreign tourists comparing, increase of 50.5 per cent over previous year.
Tourist Arrivals from England was up by 54.5 per cent to 9,788, Germany followed next with 41.6 per cent increase to 4,862, France was third with whopping 127 per cent increase to 3,232 followed by Netherlands with 1,875, up by 69.4 per cent.
Experts believe that extreme weather conditions in Europe have contributed in the boost to Sri Lanka tourism. Several parts of Europe are suffering from sub-zero temperature which has affected air, train and road travel.
Tourists from South Asia also increased by 65.2 per cent to 22,091 for November. India lead the way in South Asia with 15,500 tourists, up by 77.3 per cent. Maldives was second with 5,091 tourists and Pakistan at third with 982 tourists. In the 11 months of 2010, tourist arrivals from South Asia surpassed Western Europe with 152,067 tourists up by 37.6 per cent.
In 2010 Sri Lanka received 111,129 tourists from India followed by UK on second spot 95,320. Thanks to marketing, tourists from Middle East rose 71.6 percent to 4,953. Sri Lanka however failed to attract tourists from United States. Only 1,691 tourists from USA traveled to Sri Lanka.
