Hydropower is a minimal emission, low-cost source of energy that provides consistent, reliable generation which can be quickly adjusted to meet the various needs of the electric grid. With the surge in hydropower generation in Sri Lanka, MTD Walkers Projects announced the one-stop-shop concept for mini hydropower companies in the country. In partnership with the world’s largest hydropower company, the Andritz Group, MTD Walkers is poised to take on the supply of new turbines, the rehabilitation of existing hydropower plants and the supply of generators for new power plants, the company said in a statement.
"There is an untapped potential in offering turnkey solutions to small hydropower providers that we can replicate as a high-volume, profitable package," says Tulsi Wallooppillai, Director Infrastructure Development at MTD Walkers Projects. "We are the only company in Sri Lanka that can provide this total solution for hydropower power plants in Sri Lanka."
The Andritz Group is a globally leading supplier of plants and services for the hydropower, pulp and paper, metals, and other specialized industries (solid/liquid separation, feed and biofuel). The Group is headquartered in Graz, Austria, and operates over 120 production sites, service and sales companies all around the world. The Group has, over the years, taken over many of the world’s famous names such as GE Hydro, Sulzer-Elcher Wyss, Voest MCE, Elin and Kvaerner making it the world’s largest supplier of turbines, generators and systems integrations.
MTD Walkers Projects, a subsidiary of the MTD Walkers Group, is the sole agent for the Andritz Group in Sri Lanka. Having worked on previous power stations providing turbines and generators for Polpitiya, Kotmale, Victoria, Randenigala, Rantembe, Maskeliya Oya, Kukule Ganga along with eight other smaller Francis turbines for different power stations across the island, the company is fully geared to provide a gamut of services ranging from the sales support and technical services to the potential of renovation, upgrading and the modernization of existing power plants, the company said.
