The Colombo market started the week yesterday on a relatively dull note with marginal movements in the indices. ASI decreased by 0.16 points (-0.01%) to close at 6,783.39 while sensitive MPI dipped by 13.14 points (-0.22%) to settle at 6,031.97.
Market turnover stood at Rs 2.1bn. Colonial Motors Plc (COLO) (Rs 236.3mn) was the top contributor to the market turnover followed by Asian Alliance Insurance Plc (Rs 218.0mn) and Ascot Holdings Plc (Rs 207.2mn). COLO recorded two crossings of 4mn shares at a price of Rs 480.00.
In the meantime Ceylon and Foreign Trades Plc, Laxapana Batteries Plc and Regnis Plc recorded heavy trading during the day. Foreign participation was recorded at 12.01% of the total market activity and at the end of the day foreign investors were the net sellers with a net foreign outflow of Rs 168.2mn.
