Top professional Aravinda Perera has been appointed as the Managing Director of Sampath Bank with effect from 1 January 2012.
The appointment was made by the Board of Directors of Sampath Bank at its meeting last week, following the incumbent Harris Premaratne opting to leave at the end of his contract at Sampath Bank by end of 2011.
He is to take up as Managing Director and CEO of Cargills Agriculture and Commercial Bank from 1 January 2012, as exclusively reported by the Daily FT on Friday.
Perera is currently Deputy Managing Director of Sampath Bank in addition to being a member of the Board since November 2008.
Previously at Sampath Bank, he held positions such as the Chief Operating Officer, Deputy General Manager (Corporate Banking), Assistant General Manager (Corporate Banking), Assistant General Manager (Credit) and Senior Manager (Corporate Credit).
Prior to joining Sampath Bank, Perera served at DFCC as a Senior Project Officer and at Ceylon Tobacco Company, as Departmental Manager and Service Engineer. He commenced his career as an Engineer at National Milk Board.
Perera is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka and a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, U.K.
He received his Degree in Engineering from University of Moratuwa in 1981 and his MBA from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura in 1989. He is also a Fellow member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and a Director of Credit Information Bureau, Sri Lanka (CRIB) and Lanka Clear (Pvt) Ltd.
