Sri Lanka stocks close weaker

July 08, 2011 (LBO) - Sri Lanka stocks closed closed weaker Friday, ending three days of gains with Vallibel One, which began trading, was the most actively traded stock, brokers said.

The main All Share Price Index closed at 6,911.98, down 0.09 percent (6.43 points) while the more liquid

Milanka index fell 0.40 percent (25.46 points) to close at 6,386.97, according to stock exchange figures.
Turnover was 2.4 billion rupees.

Vallibel One closed at 30.70 rupees, up 5.70 rupees or 22.80 percent, having hit a high of 38.50 rupees.

Over 41.8 million shares changed hands. There were two crossings or off-market private deals of a million shares each at 37.50 rupees a share.

Lanka Orix Finance Company was the day's second biggest loser, closing at 10.60 rupees, down two or 15.87 percent with 1.69 million shares traded.

Orient Garments was also heavily traded, closing at 29.80 rupees, up 3.20 with 7.58 million shares done.
