Lanka Milk Foods starts commercial operations of Ambewela Products Ltd.

Lanka Milk Foods (CWE) Plc's subsidiary, Ambewela Products Ltd., which commenced with an investment of Rs. 625 million in mid-2008, has last week began commercial operations.

The subsidiary, produces, collects, processes, packs and sells milk and milk allied products in the form of Ambewela flavoured milk in 180 ml. UHT (Ultra-high temperature) pouch packs, yoghurt and cheese.

LMF said that with a vision to improve the milk industry in Sri Lanka it embarked on the Rs. 625 million investment on the Ambewela's new initiative. The state of the art factory is adding 9.5 million litres of cow milk to the national supply.

LMF acquired 90% stake in Ambewela Livestock Ltd., and Pattipola Livestock Ltd in 2001. Since then these two dairy farms have been developed to international standards and one of these farms was selected by the Department of Agriculture as the Best Large Scale Farm in Sri Lanka in 2007.
