Sri Lanka's Amana Bank expands in the East


Jan 15, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Amana Bank, which operates on Islamic financial principles said it has expanded its branches in the Eastern province, a former war zone to six.

 The new branch was opened in Nintavur, adding to Kattankudy, Kalmunai, Oddamavadi, Sammanthurai and Akkaraipattu.

 "We want to have a strong presence in the Eastern Province as we see tremendous potential and opportunities in this area in the post- conflict era," chief executive Faizal Salieh said in a statement.

Salieh said its activities in the East will help consumer and small and medium enterprise segments especially in agriculture, fisheries and trading.

Shareholders of the bank include Bank Islam Malaysia, Islamic Development Bank in Saudi Arabia and AB Bank in Bangladesh.
