Sri Lanka eChannelling in deal with software firm

May 09, 2011 (LBO) - eChannelling, a listed Sri Lankan dotcom that enables patients to make appointments with doctors over the internet, has struck a deal with a software firm, allowing it to diversify outside the healthcare sector.

The deal is by eChannelling and its subsidiary ECL Soft with Industrial Financial Systems (IFS), which supplies enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications that helps automate and better manage information flow within companies and with those outside.

IFS applications, based on web and portal technology, are used in manufacturing, supply chain management, customer relationship management, financial, engineering, maintenance and human resource administration, a stock exchange filing said.

IFS, which employs 2,623 people has 341 million US dollars in annual sales in 50 countries with over 900,000 users worldwide.

The partnership will enable global growth opportunities for eChannelling and ECL Soft outside the healthcare industry, the statement said.

"The partnership with IFS opens new avenues for eChannelling and ECL Soft to venture into new markets and devise marketing strategies offering combined services."

The technology developed by eChannelling and ECL Soft complements that used by IFS.

"The integration of existing application such as HospitalNet to IFS application back end solutions will enhance eChannelling and ECL Soft applications to a greater height, incorporating the latest ergonomics and usability aspects in the industry," it said.

Software teams in the two firms will be able to use the expertise of IFS research and development and applications consultants under the deal.

IFS has development facilities in Colombo and Kandy, in Sri Lanka's central hills.

IFS supplies industries ranging from aerospace and defence to health, manufacturing, supply chain, construction and utilities.

eChannelling formed ECL Soft recently as a joint venture with Software Distributions of the United Kingdom to diversify into BPO work.
