Nations Trust Bank warrants shines: Colombo Stocks up by 0.51% & Tourist arrivals up in May 2010

                     DAILY MARKET REVIEW

04/06/2010 (S.L.S.Picks) – Colombo Stock Market ended for the week today by registering record gains in both indices, where All Share Price index was up by 21.91 points to close at 4354.20 & the Millanka Price Index up by 49.70 points to close at 4968.34 points.

Nations Trust Bank & its warrants & Pan Asia Bank was the talk of the town today. 

Turnover for the day was healthy Rs 2.8b.n. Well supported by the retail investors, High Net Worth individuals, & Institutional investors.

Foreign participation was at a low level than previous day today. Foreigners were net sellers by Rs 560m.n for the day. Foreigners purchased Rs 187m.n. worth of shares & sold shares worth of Rs 747m.n.for the day.

Stores & Supplies sector rose by 7.73% was the leading sector due to the share price appreciation of E.B.Creasy & Company, followed by Power & Energy sector. Oil palm sector was leading in the negative performing sector list.

There were 88 positive contributors as against 73 negative contributors for the day.








CLOSER LOOK
  • Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka jumped by 42.3% YOY as a result of the end of 30 year old civil war in the country. Arrivals has risen for the 12th consecutive month since the end of the war as per the reuters reports.


  •  Earnings from the tourism industry has also up by 68.8% to $ 174.9 for the first four months as per the central bank data.
  • Tourism sector has a strong growth in future in post war Sri Lanka.
  • Mr.Dammika perera today purchased 25% appro: issued share capital of the Lanka Aluminium Industries for Rs 34/share.
  • Ceylon Leather Products together with Environmental Resources Investment purchased 59% stake, 51% & 8% respectively in South Asia Textile Industries formerly Pugoda Textiles for Rs 710m.n
