Discovery Channel's Ian Wright gets a taste of Sri Lankan culture

Renowned international traveller and television personality of Discovery channel fame - Ian Wright is in town and has been touring Sri Lanka for the past week.

Ian and his crew have been accompanying heavy metal band Stigmata as they journey through the country, giving him an insight into both their life as well as the local culture.

He is doing this as part of his latest tv venture for Discovery Asia titled ' Invite Mr. Wright' which has already sent him to Singapore and India. Last night Ian was at the Silk lounge in Maitland Crescent where Stigmata was performing in front of a crowd comprising friends, family and members of Ian’s camera crew.

Throughout the event, from the beginning when entrants were stamped with red ink to the concert itself, the pint-sized Englishman was a ball of energy, pepping up the crowd with his comic banter. Although he was followed closely by the watchful lense of the Discovery Asia team's camera most of the time, there were several moments where he would escape them and quietly interact with those who were scattered throughout the lounge.

During one conversation with an ardent fan who came up to him for a picture, Ian spoke extensively about his travels and the exciting nature of his job. Finally when the band took to the stage to perform some of their well known singles, Ian inched his way to the front of the gathering and proceeded to feed the show's camera with his comical antics.

After Stigmata's vocalist Suresh had finished performing one of their hits he invited an enthusiastic Ian on to the stage to discover his inner rockstar. After a performance complete with screaming, growling and exaggerated gestures, Ian rubbed his throat disparagingly and left the stage to roaring appaluse.

Ian Wright has been the host of a string of successful travel shows such as Globe Trekker, America the Wright Way and VIP Weekends with Ian Wright, which have sent him across the length and breadth of a number of different countries during the past several years.
