April 17, 2012 (LBO) - Sri Lankan shares closed weaker Tuesday with turnover beginning to pick up from low levels after a long holiday with interest still mainly on 'penny stocks', brokers said.
The main All Share Price Index fell 0.39 percent (21.22 points) to 5,413.58, while the more liquid Milanka index fell 0.36 percent (17.73) to close at 4,911.83.
Turnover rose to 442 million rupees, according to stock exchange provisional figures.
Index heavyweight John Keells Holdings closed at 209.40 rupees, down 30 cents, with just over a million shares traded.
Environmental Resources Investments W0006 warrants were the most actively traded, ending at 6.90 rupees, down 10 cents.
Swarnamahal Financial Services, which has also been actively traded in recent days, closed flat at nine rupees.
Seylan Developments also saw some interest, ending at eight rupees, up 50 cents.
