CSE down 0.54 percent

The Colombo Stock Exchange slumped 0.54 percent on Monday (23) with the All Share Price Index losing 40.48 points to close the day on 7,439.15, provisional data from the exchange showed. The Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks fell 0.39 percent, down 26.6 points to close at 6,853.39.

Turnover reached a little more than Rs. 2.9 billion after more than 89 million shares were traded yesterday.

74 counters closed on positive territory while 125 closed negative.

CIC Holdings announced a final dividend of Rs. 2 per share pending shareholder approval.

"The market started off on a positive note but failed to keep the momentum towards the latter part of the day," Bartleet Mallory Stock Brokers said.

Foreign interest was seen towards the selling side generating a net foreign outflow of Rs. 32 million.

John Keells Holdings saw 545,534 shares change hands at Rs. 298.500,000 Commercial Bank PLC shares traded at Rs. 260 while Distilleris saw 300,000 shares trade at Rs. 180.

Colombo Land and Development Company PLC generated turnover amounting to Rs. 955.8 million. JKH generated turnover amounting to Rs. 308.3 million.
