Sri Lanka stocks close up 1.11-pct

Nov 01, (LBO) - Sri Lanka's stocks closed up Monday, with gains shown yet again in the banking sector, brokers said.

The Colombo All Share Index rose 1.11 percent (74.38 points) to 6,752.43 points, while the Milanka Index of more liquid stocks rose 0.48 percent (34.48 points) to 7,276.25, according to provisional Colombo Stock Exchange data.

Turnover was 1.3 billion rupees. There were 131 gainers and 69 losers.

"Trading was rather dull on the floor today while there was more retail trading then institutional and high-net-worth individuals," Rakshitha Perera of Bartleet Mallory Stockbrokers said.

Commercial Bank closed at 274.10 rupees, up 7.70 while Sampath Bank closed at 280.20 rupees, down 4.70.

Index heavy John Keells Holdings closed at 301.90 rupees, up 2.10 rupees while Hayleys closed at 370.60 rupees, up 10.80.
