Nestle posts Rs 1.9 b profit in 2010

Nestle Lanka has recorded a turnover of Rs 3.9 billion for 2010.

The net revenue was over Rs 21 billion while the profit after tax was Rs 1.9 billion up from Rs 1.6 billion the previous year.

The year 2010 has been a year of opportunity, development and growth for Sri Lanka. Nestle Lanka's results are a reflection of this new era of dynamism and opportunity in the country.

The Sri Lankan company has accelerated its performance by recording double digit growth both in sales and gross profit despite strong cost pressure, Nestle Lanka Chairman Antonio Helio Waszyk said.

In line with the company's plans it will invest more than Rs 2 billion in 2011 to install additional production capacities and to focus on dairy development initiatives. This is part of a master plan drawn up for the investment of Rs 10 billion over the next few years, the Chairman said.

"The strategic investment plan will help us remain our competitive positioning and provide a firm foundation for bigger success in the future," he said.

"With a double digit turnover growth during the fiscal year, Nestle has delivered its promise for 2010. With a fresh focus on the consumer and a renewed determination to uphold our customers' trust in us as a leading nutrition, health and wellness company, innovation and renovation have made key contributions," Nestle Lanka Managing Director, Alois Hofbauer said.

Strengthening our core products with enhanced nutritional profiles whilst maintaining their appeal ability has been the driving force in the growth in turnover," he said.

Dairy development has been a key focus area and the company has significantly accelerated dairy development in the North and the East. "We have over-achieved on our milk collection targets for the year with a 20 percent growth and today collects over 100,000 litres of milk from 15,000 farmers on a daily basis," he said. (SJ)
