Sri Lanka stocks close 0.4-pct lower

Jan 27, 2011(LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed down Thursday with poultry stocks running out of steam, while price banks also kept plantation stocks in check, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 7,211.11, down 0.42 percent (-30.76 points) while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks closed at 7,195.82, down 0.35 percent (-25.03 points) according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Turnover was 4.1 billion rupees.

Bairaha Farms closed 477.00, down 18.00 rupees though net profits for the December 2010 quarter rose 546 percent to 163 million rupees from a year earlier, with other poultry stocks following suit.

Grain Elevators closed 182.40, down 2.80 rupees and Three Acre Farms closed 175.20, down 4.40 rupees.

Biggest contributor to turnover, PC House closed at 30.50, up 5.00 rupees with 16 million shares done. One crossing of 3.7 million shares took place at 27.00 rupees.

Sampath Bank closed at 302.40, up 2.50 rupees with 1.5 million shares done.
Commercial Bank closed flat at 280.00 rupees.

John Keells Holdings closed at 295.00, up 3.00 on positive earning reports released, Thursday.

Dialog Axiata closed at 11.60, down 0.10 cents.
