Far East is British Airways’ Top Tip for 2013

British Airways has released a list of what it considers to be the hottest holiday destinations for 2013, and places the Far East at the top of the pile.

The airline stated that “If 2012 was about East London, then 2013 is about the Far East,” highlighting the region’s “natural unspoilt beauty, charm and good-value.” The company’s head of UK & I sales, Richard Tams, explained that the economic climate was affecting routes chosen by holidaymakers.

“Undoubtedly consumers will continue to be driven by value-for-money next year, with routes such as Dubai, Cape Town and Bangkok already proving popular,” said Mr Tams. “We’re also experiencing a real growth in Asia right now and responding to demand with a number of new routes, including Seoul and Sri Lanka,” he added.

BA’s list of top destinations was compiled using the company’s flight data, as well as input from a panel of experts, and places Sri Lanka as the number one destination for 2013. The “Pearl of the Indian Ocean” is described as a “must-visit destination for intrepid travellers.”

In second place, Rio de Janeiro is recommended as a city offering world-class beaches and world-beating parties. With the next Olympics scheduled for Rio in 2016, as well as the 2014 World Cup, the Brazilian city is sure to be ramping up its already-electric atmosphere in preparation.

Korea’s capital city Seoul comes in at three, with the K-Pop phenomenon generating fresh interest in the region, while Croatia hits number four. Vietnam is number five, while Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic is BA’s sixth choice, thanks to its reputation as offering good value for money, great hotels and beaches bordering the Caribbean sea.

Derry in Northern Ireland made number seven, while Las Vegas, Tbilisi in Georgia and San Diego completed the top ten destinations recommended by BA.
