Sri Lanka stocks close down 0.1-pct

Dec 09, 2010 (LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks ended down 0.13 percent Thursday, with only limited retail participation in the market, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 6,445.77, down 0.13 percent (8.54 points) while the Milanka index of liquid stocks dipped 0.04 percent (3.05 points) to close at 6,915.89, according to Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) provisional figures.

Turnover was 1.89 billion rupees.

"The market was rather sluggish and we expect it to continue till may be early January," Thakshila Hulangamuwa of Asha Phillip Securities said.

JKH closed at 291.80, down 0.30 cents with 1.5 million shares traded.

Dialog Axiata closed flat at 11.90 with over 14.3 million shares changing hands.

Laugfs Gas shares were heavily traded with over 3.8 million voting shares and 12 million non-voting share changing hands. Non-voting share opened trading.

The company's voting shares closed at 26.10, down 0.40 cents while the non-voting shares closed at 16.30, up 1.30 rupees.

Among other banks Sampath Bank closed at 254.00, down 1.10 rupees, Commercial Bank closed at 265.00, down 1.50 and DFCC closed at 192.60, down 0.40 cents.
