Apr 07, Colombo: The Iranian government plans to increase the amount of tea it buys from Sri Lanka, the Ambassador of Iran to Colombo Mahmud Rahimi Gorji disclosed.
In a special discussion with Sri Lanka's Minister of plantation D.M. Jayaratne, the Iranian diplomat said his government has taken measures to buy 20 million kilograms more tea from Sri Lanka annually in the future.
Iran currently imports 30 million kilograms of tea from Sri Lanka annually.
During the meeting with the Plantation Minister, the Iranian Ambassador pledged to extend support to improve tourism in Sri Lanka and enhance bilateral cooperation between two countries.
The diplomat noted that the political environment in Sri Lanka is becoming stable and the country is heading towards prosperity.
Minister Jayaratna expressed his government's gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran appreciating the continued support from Iran towards development activities in the country.
